Everton boss Roberto Martinez is delighted that duo John Stones and Luke Garbutt have been named in the England squad for the Under 21 European Championships this summer.
The Blues boss plans to fly out to watch the games in the Czech Republic with a view to watching potential new signings, and insists that a manager should never even think about switching off during the summer.
He said, “We’ve got two players representing Everton in the Under-21s European Championships. That’s always an interesting tournament and we hope that John and Luke can have a really successful period there.
“There are some great games to follow and watch in the tournament and any game is an opportunity to find talent and to find different kinds of players, and it’s a great way sometimes to relax – to watch games while the preparations for the new pre-season are underway.
“As a manager, you shouldn’t switch off in the summer because you’d miss too much. The privilege of being the Everton manager allows me to see the role as a passion.
“I don’t see it as a job, just something that should be part of the daily routine.”
